When and where does the summer university take place?

  • from 14 July to 1 August 2025
  • in-person at BOKU University in Vienna, Austria

Who can participate?

  • open to motivated students and professionals from all fields
  • No background in economics necessary
  • A-level / pre-university level required
  • 50-60 participants from more than 20 countries each year -> with no more than 7 persons from the same nation
  • Program entirely in English

Are you ready to think outside the box?

At AEMS, you’ll dive deep into some of the most pressing challenges of our time: the global climate crisis, limits to economic growth, as well as the instabilities of our financial system. But that’s not all — you’ll also discover a wealth of innovative solutions just waiting to be put into action!

Join a dynamic group of engaged individuals to explore the root causes of these complex issues and re-imagine economic and financial systems that serve both society and the planet’s ecological boundaries. While the solutions discussed are applicable globally, the program takes place in the Minority World and focuses on perspectives from the Global North.

How to Earn Your Grade

To successfully complete the program, you will need to:

  • Show up: Full attendance is mandatory throughout the program.
  • Complete preparatory work (before AEMS).
  • Collaborate on a group project (during AEMS).
  • Present a “presenter” (during AEMS).
  • Write a reflection at the end of the program.
  • Submit feedback forms during AEMS — don’t worry, you’re graded on completing them, not the feedback itself.

Your anonymized feedback is carefully evaluated after the program to help improve future editions.

Accreditation

Upon successfully completing AEMS, you will receive a certificate from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU University), awarding you 5 ECTS credits.

You can generally have the ECTS credited at your home university - just be sure to check with your institution in advance!
